Lasers for home use are usually low-power IPL devices (IPL = intense pulsed light) and never diode lasers. Doctors have found that the small IPL devices for home use cannot match the power of diode, alexandrite or Nd:YAG lasers. This depends on the treatment area. We can laser sun-protected body zones such as under the armpits or the bikini line without hesitation. However, large areas of skin exposed to the sun should only be lasered when the sun shines less strongly outside. Let’s say you’ve had laser hair removal done somewhere else, but you’re not 100% satisfied with the results and now want to try a different device—that’s possible. But the question is, why aren’t you satisfied with the results?
For example, light blonde or white hair is difficult or impossible to remove with any type of laser because it contains too little or no melanin. The situation is different on the back, however—there, we achieve a hair reduction of “only” 70–80%. The reason for this is that hair and hair growth patterns vary depending on the body region. That’s why removing underarm and bikini line hair is much faster than in other areas. As a result, you’ll need fewer treatments than usual to remove underarm and bikini line hair.
Moles should not be exposed to laser beams, as this can cause their color to change, which in turn could be a cause for concern for your dermatologist.
