The masseter muscle , or masseter muscle in medical jargon , is one of the most important muscles in chewing. If the chewing muscle is overdeveloped or overstressed, such as through teeth grinding, it increases in size, resulting in a wider jawline. This is often perceived as a stigma for those affected.   • Medical consultation

    Now is the time: Grit your teeth. Together we will look at the development of your masseter muscle in the mirror and assess how many treatments you will need. As a rule, 1 – 2 treatments are necessary.

  • Preparation

    The affected areas of the face are marked and the overactive muscles are marked.

  • Treatment

    By injecting Botox into the masseter, we correct your teeth grinding and discreetly reduce the size of your chewing muscle. Afterwards you are immediately socially acceptable again.

  • Result

    After a few days, the Botox begins to take effect and after 14 days it has reached its maximum strength. You should now wait another 2 weeks to assess a sufficient effect, as the reduction of the muscle takes time. If there is still residual muscle activity or pain in the jaw joint after one month, a repeat treatment is recommended.

Important information about Masseter Botox

The masseter muscle usually becomes larger as a result of teeth grinding. Therefore, more Botox is sometimes necessary to achieve a satisfactory result. This means that, depending on the severity, we often recommend repeated treatment every 4 weeks to relax the entire muscle. We will of course point this out to you during the consultation.

Even if treatment with Botox for teeth grinding protects you from the consequences such as tooth damage or temporomandibular joint wear, Botox for the masseter is not usually covered by health insurance.

We take sufficient time for our initial consultation. If you would like to have a Botox treatment of the chewing muscle or a Gummy Smile correction with us in Vienna, the consultation is free of charge. If you can’t decide right away, we charge a consultation fee of €140. But the good news is that we will credit €50 back to you for future treatment.

A masseter treatment with Botox costs € 290 at GoAesthetic. Important: If the muscle is very pronounced and teeth grinding is severe, a second treatment may be necessary after 4 weeks.

The effect of Botox in the masseter lasts for around 6 months. This is usually shorter with other Botox treatments. Repeated use can cause the muscle to shrink, so in some cases you can benefit from an effect for up to a year.

As with a brow lift or the treatment of bunny lines with Botox, the effect does not start immediately, but after a few days. You will notice the maximum effect after around 2 weeks. If you have severe teeth grinding, we can then carry out another treatment to achieve a greater effect.
