The polynucleotide treatment uses small building blocks of DNA and RNA, our genetic material. These molecules give our skin cells natural signals for renewal. Even though the method became known in the media as the “salmon sperm treatment”, it has little to do with sensationalist journalism – but a lot to do with serious research.

The term comes from the fact that the polynucleotides used are extracted from the DNA of fish such as chum salmon or rainbow trout – specifically from their sperm cells, which are particularly rich in salmon DNA. Origin and extraction of polynucleotides for skin rejuvenation: Scientific background and study situation

In our Vienna practice, we rely exclusively on sustainably sourced polynucleotides from European freshwater fish. A patented process is used to carefully remove proteins from them – this minimizes the risk of allergic reactions. However, you should not have an allergy to fish protein.

  • For the wrinkle injections with hyaluronic acid volume is specifically built up to fill in sunken areas. Polynucleotides have a more subtle effect: Although they also bind moisture, they do not artificially plump up the skin – your facial features remain completely natural.

  • Treatment

    After thorough disinfection, we start the treatment. Several small fluid deposits are placed in the uppermost layer of the skin – it is perfectly normal to feel a slight pulling or burning sensation during the injection. After a few minutes, the complete polynucleotide treatment is already over.

  • Result

    Immediately after the treatment, you will see fine wheals (bumps on the skin), which disappear after a few minutes to hours. The following day you will see nothing more. And important: you should repeat the injection 1-2 times to get the most out of the treatment.

What do you need to consider during polynucleotide treatment?

Before treatment:

  • Blood-thinning medication should be discontinued (please consult us or your doctor)

  • No active inflammation in the treated area (e.g. fever blisters)

  • No treatment during pregnancy and breastfeeding

After treatment:

  • Avoid intensive sport, facial massages and other cosmetic treatments for 2 days

  • No sauna, steam bath or solarium visits for a few days

  • Avoid intensive sun exposure for a few days or use sunscreen (SPF 50)
