An excess of male hormones is often to blame for the “lady beard”. These act at the root of the hair and transform fine hairs into dark, highly visible hairs. In many women, the hair roots react hypersensitively to hormones, even though everything is medically in order.

Which areas of the face can be treated with laser?

Laser treatment is well suited to removing hair on the chin and cheeks or a moustache. The hair structure is also decisive: the darker and thicker the hair, the better the laser works.

We cannot treat:

  • Eyebrows
  • Nose hair
  • Ear hair
  • Very fine hair
  • Blonde or white hair

Even if you have freshly tanned skin, you should wait – your last sunbathing session should have been at least 1-2 weeks ago.

Important: Although our Lumenis diode laser is gentle on the skin, it must not go into the eyes. That’s why the area around your eyes is off-limits and you wear protective goggles while we laser your face.

How laser beard hair removal works at GoAesthetic

During laser hair removal, high-energy light reaches the hair root via the color pigments in the hair. A short heat impulse is generated there, which damages the hair root and the surrounding cells. Existing hair falls out after 7 to 10 days and hair growth is stopped for a long time.

It is important to know that light blonde or white facial hair does not respond to laser treatment as it has too little colour pigment – the laser does not “recognize” it. In addition, laser treatment only works on hair that is in the active growth phase. We therefore need several sessions to catch all hairs in their sensitive phase. It doesn’t matter whether we remove back hair or laser other areas of the body.

    Before we start the treatment, we cover all the moles and then it’s time to put on the laser safety goggles and off we go. Thanks to the contact cooling of the sapphire laser attachment, you will hardly feel the treatment and after a few minutes we will be finished.

  • Result

What do you need to bear in mind for laser beard removal?

Before treatment:

  • Shave the areas to be treated 1 day in advance

  • Avoid sunbathing and tanning beds 1-2 weeks beforehand

  • No waxing, sugaring or plucking for 3 weeks before the treatment

  • No treatment during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

After treatment:

  • Avoid strong sunlight and tanning beds for 2-3 weeks

  • Protect your face with sun cream – we recommend SPF 50

Frequently asked questions about beard removal with laser

Yes, studies show: Laser treatment helps women with hormone-induced facial hair growth. Depending on the exact cause, it may also be necessary to treat the underlying disease. We will be happy to advise you personally and discuss whether further medical examinations are advisable.

Depending on how many areas of the face we are treating, we are usually finished after 5 to 10 minutes.

When used in a medically correct manner, laser hair removal on the face is safe – as proven by numerous studies.
The most common side effect is a slight and temporary reddening of the skin. It is important to know that the laser can make your skin more sensitive to light. We therefore recommend using a good sunscreen (SPF 50) after the treatment.

Yes, in principle you can apply make-up to your face immediately after the treatment. However, avoid peelings or aggressive cleansing products and remember to protect your face with sunscreen.

We normally need at least 6 to 8 treatments to get rid of all the unwanted hairs. However, hair growth is already visibly reduced after the first few sessions. We then recommend an annual treatment to maintain the result.
